Three Tips For Managing Eye Strain

Blog

Eye problems and discomfort can be extremely disruptive problems to experience. Unfortunately, eye strain can be a common problem for those that spend much of their time on a computer. While eye strain is fairly common, it is also a condition that people will overlook or assume is unimportant, but learn a few care tips can help you to minimize these issues.

Know The Warning Signs Of Eye Strain

When eye strain first starts to develop, you may be able to stop its progress or greatly slow it by taking a break away from the computer. This break will not need to be long as your eye muscles may be able to start relaxing after only a few minutes, which can greatly alleviate the discomfort. You will know that it is time for you to take a break from the computer when you start to experience a headache, eye pain, difficulty focusing and a sense of fatigue near the eye muscles.

Take Simple Precautions To Minimize Computer Eye Strain

While it is normal for individuals to occasionally experience eye strain, you may find that you are few more likely to encounter this problem due to your working conditions. However, you may be able to manage your eye strain symptoms by taking some fairly simple precautions. One of the easier to overlook is ensuring that you are between six inches and a foot away from your monitor when you are using it. Also, you may want to place a glare guard on the screen to minimize glares shining into your eyes. Cleaning your glasses may also help to alleviate the eye strain that you are experiencing. If your glasses get dirty, there will be dust and other materials on the glasses that can disrupt the way that your eyes are focusing.

Have Your Eyes Examined By An Optometrist

For many people, taking basic preventative care steps can greatly reduce the prevalence of their eye strain issues. However, there are other individuals that may find that they are still regularly experiencing this particular problem after taking these steps. If you continue to experience eye strain, you may want to schedule an appointment with an optometrist as they will be able to determine whether potentially serious diseases are contributing to this problem. A common treatment for those with chronic computer caused eye strain will be to wear special glasses while working. These glasses will help the eyes to focus more easily, which can help to reduce squinting and other actions that can contribute to eye strain and fatigue.

I have talked with my eye doctor about the signs of failing eye sight and what can be done to put it off a bit. Between what my eye doctor has taught me and what I have read in books and online, I have gathered quite a bit of information about protecting your vision and seeing clearly long into your older years.
